Why compress

Smaller images, faster pages, better rankings

Images are usually the heaviest thing on a web page. A single unoptimized photo straight off a phone can be 6–12 MB, while the same image at quality 75 and 1920 pixels wide is often under 300 KB and looks identical on screen. That difference shows up directly in Core Web Vitals: Largest Contentful Paint is an image on the majority of pages, and it is the metric most likely to fail a Google page-experience check.

The same applies outside the web. YouTube caps custom thumbnails at 2 MB and rejects anything larger, so a compression pass is often the difference between an upload going through and being bounced. Email attachments, Discord uploads, marketplace listings and CMS media libraries all have their own ceilings, and all of them are easier to live under once images are properly encoded.

The reason this tool can be free and unlimited is that it does not cost us anything to run. Traditional online compressors upload your file, process it on a server, and bill for that bandwidth and CPU — which is why they cap file sizes and batch counts. Here the work happens on hardware you already own, so the only real limits are your own RAM and patience. It also means the privacy question answers itself: there is no server-side copy of your image, because there was never an upload.

Image compression questions

Everything people usually ask before trusting a compressor with their photos.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Every image is decoded, resized and re-encoded by your own browser using the HTML canvas API. Nothing is transmitted to Vynex.ai or anywhere else, which is why the tool still works if you disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded.

What image formats can I compress?

JPG/JPEG, PNG and WebP. You can also convert between them — for example, exporting a heavy PNG screenshot as WebP usually cuts the file size by 60–80% with no visible difference.

Is there a file size or batch limit?

There is no limit imposed by the tool. The practical ceiling is your device's memory, since each image is held in memory while it is processed. A few hundred normal photos at a time is comfortable on most laptops.

What quality setting should I use?

For web pages and YouTube thumbnails, 70–80 is the sweet spot: large savings and no artefacts most people can spot. Drop to 55–65 for background images where sharpness matters less, and stay above 85 for product photography or anything that will be zoomed into.

Does compressing an image reduce its dimensions?

Only if you ask it to. By default the pixel dimensions are untouched and only the encoding quality changes. Use the "Max width" option to also scale images down, which is usually the single biggest saving for photos straight off a phone or camera.

Is PNG compression lossless here?

No. Re-encoding a PNG through canvas is lossless for the pixels but often produces a larger file, so the tool converts PNG input to WebP or JPEG when that yields a smaller result. If a file would grow, it is left alone and marked as already optimized.

Does the tool strip EXIF and location data?

Yes, as a side effect of re-encoding. Camera model, timestamps and GPS coordinates are not carried over into the compressed output, which is useful before publishing photos publicly.

Can I compress images on my phone?

Yes. The tool is responsive and runs in mobile Chrome and Safari. Very large batches are slower on phones because there is less memory to work with, so process in smaller groups if a tab reloads.
